About the Event

GIFTS AND THEFTS. Maybe an unlikely choice, but I am convinced that some of the most telling "transactions" we make in our lives come under these categories! Our identities are shaped and expressed in just these kind of charged material transactions, and so they bear a lot of meaning when we include them as part of our stories.

When did you give a gift that felt exactly right for the recipient? How did that person receive it? What was the least well-chosen gift you ever received? When did you receive something that was an unintended gift? If you could go back in time and give someone something, what would you give? Who in your life is it impossible to give a gift to? What about the disappointment of not getting a gift when you hoped you would receive one?

And then theft. We have all stolen something sometime, or have had something stolen from us. Those experiences have an enormous amount to tell us about who we are, what we value, what we covet and desire, what we are willing to do when we want something, how we grow to respect or to question law and authority, what we believe about ownership, individuality and community.

I hope you will join us! All writers welcome, whether you are new or practiced, whether you write fiction, non-fiction, poetry or a mix. There is no obligation to share anything you write but there will be opportunities to do so.
